mapof.net is a free, independent atlas of the world's cities: an interactive map and a fact sheet for 15,302 cities, a page for each of 246 countries and territories, and a search across 147,043 places.

What you can do here

Where the data comes from

City names, coordinates, populations, elevations, time zones and country facts come from GeoNames, a free geographical database published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. The data was last refreshed in October 2026. Population figures are the latest values recorded in GeoNames; depending on the country they describe the city proper, a municipality or a wider urban area, so they can differ from official census or metro-area figures. Distances are great-circle distances calculated from the coordinates; day lengths are calculated from latitude.

Map tiles come from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL) and are displayed with the open-source Leaflet library.
